About Firebase Leadership
Authenticity.
People first.
Always.
You bring your own story, your own strengths,
and possibilities you may not have discovered yet.
There’s room for you here.
Real people.
Room to grow.
Let’s begin with you
What brought you here?
Choose a starting point, or simply keep exploring.
01 / The person
A life spent
believing in people.
I’m Stephen. A husband, dad, Pops,
and a lifelong student of leadership.
I’ve taught in classrooms, served in youth ministry, coached youth football, and worked in public safety communication. In each setting, I’ve found opportunities to recognize potential and invest in someone’s growth.
Firebase brings that commitment together with years of leadership study and experience. I want people to recognize their strengths, gain confidence, and use their influence to serve others well.

Founder, Firebase Leadership
Different settings.
The same heart.

02 / The belief
Before you ask for a hand,
touch a heart.
I want to know the person behind the goal. What matters to you? What’s getting in your way? What do you hope is possible? That’s where our work begins.
John Maxwell’s teaching reinforces that principle. It shapes how I want you to experience Firebase: with care, honest conversation, and practical encouragement.
Think of someone who saw something in you before you saw it yourself. What difference did that make?

Great leaders
keep learning.
03 / The practice
Still a student.
Always growing.
Helping others grow carries a responsibility to keep growing myself.
The Maxwell Leadership program helped me develop my abilities and strengthen my work with established techniques and curriculum. As a Maxwell Leadership Certified Speaker, I bring that preparation alongside my experience in teaching, mentoring, and public service.
We start by listening. Then we connect what matters to you with practical learning, honest reflection, and a step you can take.
My experience & credentials
Through Firebase Leadership, I bring together years of leadership study, teaching, mentoring, and public information experience across law enforcement, emergency management, and the fire service.
I am a graduate of FEMA’s Master Public Information Officer Program, a credentialed Public Information Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, and a South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager. I hold a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Lander University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Management from Western Carolina University.
For five years, I served as an adjunct instructor with Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, teaching Public Information in an All-Hazards Incident (MGT318), and later contributed to its curriculum revision.
My published research examined characteristics associated with high-performing Master Public Information Officers. I also authored “Successfully Navigating Media for the Emergency Manager,” a chapter in Principles of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Centers, Second Edition, selected as the 2022 ASIS Security Industry Book of the Year.
